The data presented here is a best-attempt effort to show how members have registered with USA Rugby over the years. And, within a year, how a single member might have multiple memberships through various roles and transfers. Care is taken to count a person that is valid at any time during a season, while removing cancellations and other mistakes. However, you should expect up to 1% discrepancy for any data set being viewed.
A season's numbers aren't usually finalized until a couple of months after the season ends. Therefore, the current season's numbers are for estimation only, and should not be quoted as fact.

A Member is a unique person for the current scope of data being presented.
A Membership defines how a member has registered (Admin, Coach, College Player, etc.) and to what club that registration belongs. A member can therefore have multiple memberships. For example, a member can be a senior player and an admin at one club, a coach at another club, and a referee at yet another. Halfway through the season, the player may transfer from their primary club to a 7s club.
In the membership example above, our one member can have memberships that span types, states, and regions. So how does this member get counted in the various sections of this site?
USA Rugby seasons after 2008 do not go by the calendar year, but rather from 9/1 of the prior year to 8/31 of the major year. To accommodate this transition, 2008 was a short season from 1/1/2008 to 8/31/2008. While seasons from 2009 onward are generally written out with both calendar years (e.g., the 9/1/2018-8/31/2019 season is written as the 2018-2019 season), just the major year is used in the dashboard (2019) to make sorting easier.
